You hit record, and the track starts to play. The first chord of the verse starts up, you take a breath and…. What the heck? You play back the track. Clearly you recorded something. You can hear it! So you take a trip down the Google Hole. Things should just work the way you expect them to. Especially when it comes to recording. Logic has several Modes for a stress-free recording session.

Get to know these babies, cause they can save you a lot of headaches. All the Logic Modes hang out in the upper right hand corner of the Arrange Window. And Software Monitoring looks like a speaker:. A window will now open, and all the way to the right is the Modes and Functions:. With Software Monitoring enabled, any track that you Record-enable will be audible through your headphones and monitors. In that case you can enable Input Monitoring for your selected tracks.

At the bottom of the Buttons list is Input Monitoring. Click the box next to it and you should now have a shiny new orange button in the Track Header! Ah, but if only it were that easy.

Monitoring through Logic introduces a phenomenon called Latency. Latency is an audible delay of your mic signal. For example: You try singing into the mic, and your voice comes through the headphones milliseconds after.

And within that menu are 6 values measured in samples:. But the smaller the number, the more you risk the chance of crippling your Mac with System Overloads. If you need some reverb or delay to feel comfortable performing — throw it on your track! Let that reverb wash your self-doubt away. Having a hard time hearing yourself in the mix? Throw on the Compressor to level out and bring out your performance.

So you go to town. It turns out Plugins and Busses can add latency too. With the single click of a button, Low Latency Mode turns off all Latency-inducing plugins and routing:. Any Plugins that causing latency in your session are muted.

And now all your Plugins and routing are back in action. Your job is done and life is beautiful. For some of us no matter what we do with the Buffer, Low Latency Mode, or anything else — Latency is just a fact. Oftentimes the culprit is a Project that has become far too big to manage effectively. Another reason could be the combination of your interface and Mac. A slower connection like USB 1. The solution was to provide you with a separate Mix Software for Direct Monitoring.

Instead of listening to your track through Logic, you hear it directly from your interface. Direct Monitoring has its advantages. Just make sure to turn off Software Monitoring if you do use Direct Monitoring.

Things get a little more complicated when you have to think about Latency. Based on your Mac and interface, you may need to find a different way to manage your monitoring latency. Thank you so much for boiling down the complexity to the essentials! Hey Sacha, thanks for the suggestion! Great article Chris. Super-useful, esp. Many thanks and keep up the good work. In fact, it sets up direct monitoring through that channel strip without having to open the Apogee app or change Logic prefs.

Finally, you can set up an Aux send for some of that awesome ChromaVerb. Very few know about the Direct button or Apogee FX Rack plugins, but this really is a great solution to the monitoring dilemmas you describe.

Roger Apogee. Very handy for sure. This is one of the best Why Logic Pro Rules articles. Today, out of the blue, I started losing hours trying to track down latency issues.

Thank you. HI first I wanted to say I really enjoy your tutorials. My issue is a little different. This all mostly makes sense except for this: I have not needed software or input monitoring before, and all of a sudden in the middle of a project I need software monitoring.

Nothing changed. So at least I can keep recording vocals. But what on earth caused this to be different? Any ideas? I have a question regarding direct monitoring.

So far all is great. Question is does my recorded audio line up in sync with my project or do I have to compensate that ms manually afterwards? Hey Thematic, thanks for the comment! Logic handles lining everything up, regardless if you use Direct Monitoring or Software Monitoring.

Thank you Chris for clearing this up for me. It sure helps! I come from Cubase and still use a Steinberg audio interface.

It has DSP on board with amp models, reverbs etc. So this is good news for me, no need for changing buffers and switch off plugins an such. Thank you! Only the result… otherwise I will hear the audio double. Maybe a stupid question. The playback stereo out AND the input mono in. Even when you mute the external Moog track, the stereo out, master Volume, etc.

I will still hear the input audio. Only when I mute the midi. But muting midit means that the Moog track will not be heard during playback… Mmm…. So I was looking for all kind off causes, maybe an prefade auto input monitoring that keeps on monitoring also in playback mode.

I really hope you can help me, this is so frustrating. Thnx already! Your email address will not be published. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. The first chord of the verse starts up, you take a breath and… Nothing. Not a single word you sing comes through the headphones.

The good news is that everything you need is literally a click away. Software Monitoring: The Ghost in the Machine Hearing you mic or instrument in Logic can feel surprisingly complicated. Input Monitoring Now with Software Monitoring you should be all set to hear your tracks through Logic.

Pretty easy, right? Flip Software Monitoring on for the whole project, and Turn Input Monitoring on for the tracks you want to hear. Managing Latency Ah, but if only it were that easy. So how do you deal with latency?

One moment, please

Some plug-ins may cause small timing delays, known as latencywhen processing audio. This processing can take the form of input latency, output latency, or both. However, monitoring an audio recording may have both an input and an output latency because the signal must be xx into Logic Pro before it can be processed.

Input latency if any is added to the output latency, resulting in an overall selay latency. Each further process—such as the use of insert effects, for example—may add to the overall monitoring latency.

However, Logic Pro can compensate for these latencies using plug-in latency compensation to ensure that all your logic pro x input monitoring delay free download output подробнее на этой странице perfectly synchronized. You can turn plug-in latency compensation on divx pro 7 free free off. When plug-in latency compensation is turned on, there can be a slight lag between the moment you start playback and the moment when output begins, depending on the amount of latency being compensated.

In Logic Pro, you can choose to apply plug-in latency compensation either to all channel strip types, or to only audio and software instrument channel strips:. Audio and software instrument channel strips only: If you insert latency-causing plug-ins only on audio and instrument channel strips, you can choose plug-in latency compensation for only audio and instrument logic pro x input monitoring delay free download.

This results in snappy playback performance. All channel strip types: If you insert latency-causing plug-ins on aux or output channel strips, you can choose plug-in latency compensation for all увидеть больше of channel strips.

When this setting is turned on, Logic Pro compensates for latency-causing plug-ins by calculating the amount of latency caused by all monitorlng, and then delaying audio streams by an appropriate amount. This type of plug-in latency compensation can result in a slight lag in playback performance, depending on how much latency is being compensated.

Delays in playing back больше информации, whether caused by a plug-in or by the plug-in latency compensation feature, can result in your performance being out of time. Audio and Software Instrument Tracks: If you have inserted latency-causing plug-ins only into http://replace.me/110.txt or instrument channel strips, choose this option.

All: If you have inserted latency-causing plug-ins into aux or output channel strips, choose this option. Logic Pro delays all audio streams by an appropriate amount to keep them all synchronized delah each other. Note: The Low Latency Monitoring button does not downlooad in the control bar by default. To add this button to the control bar, see Customize the Logic Pro control bar.

Recorded logic pro x input monitoring delay free download is routed around any latency-causing plug-ins in the signal path.

The sound may change when you turn on Low Latency mode. Depending on the plug-ins in use, the change in sound can be anything from subtle to dramatic. If plug-ins being used do not exceed the total latency limit, there is no audible difference.
